About WCA Membership

WCA is a membership organization with approximately 50 women members. For ease of management, the membership is divided among three departments, each named for the buildings which were once owned by WCA - the Dunwoody Department, the Paige Department, and the Pillsbury Department. The department members are responsible for investigating applications for grants which the organization receives from a wide variety of human service agencies. In the course of their investigations, the department members read the applications, hear presentations by grantseekers and make site visits. Upon completion of their investigations, they make granting recommendations to the WCA Board of Directors.

Membership Obligations

Annual membership dues are $10 and are the only direct financial contribution members are required to make to the organization. The members are never asked either to contribute funds to WCA or to raise funds for the organization.

Each new member is assigned to a department and required to attend a minimum of five meetings of that department a year. The department meetings are held once each month from January through May and July through October. All meetings are held in the WCA offices located in Minnetonka and generally last two to three hours.

In addition to attending the meetings, members are required to make a minimum of two site visits per year and are also required to prepare for grantseeker presentations and site visits by reading the grant applications and preparing appropriate questions.

It is estimated members spend five to fifteen hours a month on WCA duties.

Members are also required to attend an initial membership training session (lasting approximately three hours) and to be retrained every three years.

The WCA Board of Directors is comprised of members of the organization. The Board meets once a month to hear reports from the departments and the standing committees and to oversee the administrative work of the organization.

WCA has two paid staff members, who carry out day-to-day management of the organization and act in support of the departments and officers.
